Description

Connect VA2000CX to your VA2000 and play classic Amiga games through the graphics card over HDMI/DVI output.

The video signals are taken directly from the Amiga 2000/3000/4000 video slot, which means they are digital. No analog/digital conversion takes place between the Amiga chipset and the monitor, giving you the best possible pixel quality.

VA2000CX is completely open source; the schematics live in the "videoslot" folder of the VA2000 GitHub repository.

The picture shows a pre-release version of VA2000CX. The final version has a blue IDC connector that prevents wrong insertion of the included 36-pin ribbon cable.

Features

  • Realtime capture of 12-bit digital color from ECS chipset into VA2000 framebuffer
  • Seamlessly switch between VA2000 RTG modes and Amiga native modes on the same display
  • Use early start-up menu via VA2000
  • Supported input resolutions: PAL LowRes, PAL HiRes, NTSC LowRes, NTSC HiRes
  • Output resolution 640x480@60Hz or 640x512@60Hz
  • 50Hz output mode possible with alternative firmare
  • 12 remaining expansion pins hackable as 3x PMOD (SPI/I2C)

Limitations

  • No support for AGA 24-bit color
  • No de-interlacing of Interlace modes
  • PMOD expansion pins require future firmware/software update

Versions

  • VA2000CX comes in two versions: a cheaper DIY version that is not assembled. The package contains the PCB, 2 SMD chips, 4 SMD caps and some headers (including one 36 pin IDC) that you have to solder yourself and the custom IDC cable.
  • The other, slightly more expensive version is hand-assembled by MNT. No additional work required by you.
  • Both versions contain all parts required to connect to VA2000. I will include a 36 pin header for you to solder to VA2000 batch 1 card.
